The game

Auburn scored 39 despite just 373 yards and 20:44 of possession. Florida gained 495 yards, ran for four touchdowns and converted all three fourth downs. The score reached 41–24 early in the fourth quarter; Auburn's final touchdown came with 24 seconds left. The rally mattered, but the protection and defensive breakdowns were the bigger story. The table separates each team's offensive output from its defensive workload. Defensive plays = the opponent's official offensive plays, with no special-teams or nullified plays added. Opponent offensive numbers are Auburn's defensive allowances. All rates below are calculated from the official counts. Full box score

Stat discrepancy: Auburn's game book prints a 46.5 net punt average, but its underlying totals produce (83 − 16) ÷ 2 = 33.5. This report uses 33.5 as a labeled calculation, not an announced official correction. The two schools' full-game punt and return counts agree. Game book, PDF page 3

Auburn's season FG rate is 4/5, 80.0% (+5.0 pp); PATs are 11/11, 100.0% (unchanged). Calculated net punting is 38.62, down 1.71 yards. Official kickoffs/touchbacks total 16/16; Auburn averages 5.33 of each per game, down 0.17. Punts average 2.67/game (−0.33) and inside-20 punts 1.00/game (−0.50). Kickoff returns total 5 for 111 yards, or 22.20/return (−0.13). Onside attempts are excluded from that official kickoff-stat line, so 16/16 does not describe every kick attempt.

The breakdown

Protection is the persistent concern. Sacks allowed went 5 → 1 → 7, for 13 total. Florida sacked Brown on 7 of 42 pass attempts plus sacks (16.7%), compared with 1/34 (2.9%) against USM. The season rate is 13/116 (11.2%), up 3.1 pp. That is a sack rate, not a measured pressure rate. Seven sacks while running 18 fewer offensive plays is a hell of a regression. Baylor, USM, Florida

The defensive regression was larger than the workload increase. Defensive plays rose 58 → 76, but yards allowed per play also jumped 3.81 → 6.51. Florida had the ball 39:16 and scored on six consecutive possessions spanning late Q1 through early Q4. Auburn's extra defensive work came alongside failed stops: Florida was 3/3 on fourth down, including Baugh's 53-yard touchdown. Game book, Auburn recap

There were real gains in finishing and discipline. Auburn improved red-zone scoring from 3/5 to 4/4, and red-zone TD efficiency from 60% to 75%. Penalties fell from 10 to 6 and penalty yards from 73 to 65. But Florida committed 16 penalties for 138 yards and still won. That makes the loss harder to excuse; those advantages did not repair the protection or defensive issues. Official box score

The rushing decline was not only sack accounting. The official rushing line fell from 343 yards to 102. Adding sack losses back and removing sack attempts gives a clearly labeled supplemental comparison of 345/50 = 6.90 against USM versus 137/24 = 5.71 against Florida; kneeldowns remain included. Auburn's running backs Cobb and Washington combined for only 40 yards on 12 carries against Florida. USM box, Florida box

The individuals explain the team picture. Brown produced 271 passing yards, three passing TDs, one INT and 65 net rushing yards with a TD. Singleton and Nimrod combined for 13 catches, 194 yards and two TDs. Melendez and Atkins supplied 20 tackles, five TFLs and both Auburn sacks, while Baugh supplied Florida 162 rushing yards and three TDs. Individual production kept Auburn competitive, but did not make this a balanced performance. Official individual statistics

Three games are still a small sample. Florida was Auburn's first SEC opponent, while last week's comparison was Southern Miss; no opponent adjustment is applied here. Offensive third-down efficiency has slipped 55.6% → 46.7% → 46.2%, and the rate allowed has risen 31.8% → 38.5% → 43.8%. Those are early warning signs, not proof that the same trajectory will continue.

The fresh Baylor and Southern Miss checks found no changes in previously stored team fields. Last week's Southern Miss discrepancy remains handled consistently: the controlling full box gives Auburn 610 yards, 84 offensive plays and 267 passing yards, rather than the alternate 613/85/270 summary. No historical baseline was silently changed. Pressure counts, EPA, success rate, opponent-adjusted ratings and individual snaps are unavailable on a consistent verified basis and are omitted.
